Tiffany Glenn Burress, the wife of former New York Giants star wide receiver Plaxico Burress, is gearing up to run for Congress as a Republican next year in New Jersey.

A personal injury and workers compensation lawyer, Burress is planning to challenge Democratic Rep. Nellie Pou in New Jersey’s 9th District and meeting with local party leaders and consultants about a campaign, according to several GOP operatives familiar with her conversations.

One of the newest additions to the House battlefield, the 9th is a plurality Hispanic district in Bergen and Passaic counties that narrowly voted for Donald Trump in 2024 after delivering Joe Biden a 19-point victory in 2020. Pou, who succeeded longtime Rep. Bill Pascrell, escaped with a 5-point win against an underfunded perennial candidate. More recently, Democrat Mikie Sherrill finished ahead of Republican Jack Ciattarelli by 19 points in this year’s race for governor.

Burress would be Pou’s highest-profile opponent. The current Republican field includes the 2024 nominee, Billy Prempeh, and Clifton City Councilor Rosie Pino.

A New Kensington, PA native, Burress, 47, was a track and field star at Penn State and tried out for the 2000 Olympic team. She also founded a maternity clothing line in the early 2010s.

Her public political involvement is relatively minimal. She donated $2,400 to Kevin Powell in 2010, when the former “Real World” star challenged longtime New York Rep. Ed Towns in the Democratic primary. But in 2014, NJ.com spotted Burress at a fundraiser held by Hudson County GOP Chairman Jose Arango.

Burress has been married to Plaxico Burress since 2005. The wide receiver was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2000 and reached his zenith with the Giants, catching the game winning touchdown in Super Bowl XLII. But his career entered a tailspin after he accidentally shot himself in a New York City nightclub and was served 20 months in prison for gun crimes.

The race is rated Lean Democratic.
